In Jesus Christ, God calls people to faith and membership in the Church, the body of Christ. Baptism is a visible sign and seal of God’s grace and covenant in Christ, the ritual of entry into the Church, God’s covenant community.
The baptism of infants witnesses to the truth that God’s love claims people before they are able to respond in faith. Through baptism, God strengthens our faith and demonstrates a reality that we cannot yet see: God’s salvation extended to us through Jesus’ death and resurrection. Through the sacrament of baptism, we receive the guarantee or seal that we belong to God’s family and that all God’s promises belong to us personally. Please note: The Presbyterian Book of Order states that ordinarily the parent(s) shall be an active member of the congregation (W-2.3104).

If a student (5th grade or older) was not baptized as an infant or child, he or she must first become a member of Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church. They are encouraged to participate in the Confirmation Class, which is an opportunity to come together and learn about our faith, experience mentoring by adult members of the congregation, and, in the end, present themselves to session as candidates for membership and (if they have never been baptized) to be baptized.
As with student baptisms, an adult seeking to be baptized at WCPC must become a member of Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church. Membership class is scheduled periodically throughout the year for adults.
Baptisms are generally scheduled on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th Sunday of every month, unless the family makes other arrangements.
