WCPres belongs to a family of congregations called the Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians (ECO). We encourage those who wish to form a deeper relationship within the WCPres community to become a covenant partner. A covenant partner in ECO is a member of the body of Christ who has covenanted—solemnly agreed—to engage in the mission of God in our particular congregation and community.
Covenant partnership provides a commitment, an anchor, and protection for individuals within the global church, giving them resources and opportunities to belong here, grow deep, and serve Christ.
When individual congregants enter into covenant partnership with the congregation as a whole, they make a public declaration of willingness to accept both the privileges and responsibilities of affiliation with a local body of believers.
The person making this declaration commits to being involved in congregational decision making and election of leaders; to be nominated to serve for office and other specific forms of leadership; and to present children for baptism. They also commit to following Jesus in community, both through active participation in congregational worship, community, and teamwork and in stewardship of their individual abilities and financial resources.
Entry into this covenant anchors an individual in a local, equally committed community, helping the covenant partner remain supported, challenged, and loved, particularly in times of transition or uncertainty.
Covenant partnership allows individuals to be part of a local body of believers that is able to establish minimum terms of faith and practice, preserve its integrity, and provide accountability and protection in the case of abuse of power.
Completion of workshop is required for all prospective covenant partners.
